leaflet on policy priorities for council elections

The two Constituency Labour Parties in Herefordshire, North Herefordshire and Hereford & South Herefordshire campaign together and fight local elections as ‘Herefordshire Labour’ to maximise our impact across the county. Our  election platform for the council and parish council elections in May 2023 is shown above.

While we may not hold the council after these elections, our councillors will hold the Council to account for all of us living in Herefordshire.

What will our councillors do?

1  Demand value for money: we will ask tough questions about spending and results, prioritise local community benefits, and hold contractors accountable.

Improve roads and transport: we will fight for better rural bus services, properly maintained roads and safe footpaths. And push for immediate smart traffic flow improvements in the city.

3 Create local homes: we will support council housing and new homes local people can afford, demand sustainable building, and hold developers accountable for infrastructure in new developments.

4 Boost rural jobs & protect the environment: we will advocate for a green economy, fair wages, and renewable energy. And continue to stand up for our rivers, wildlife, and act on flooding risks.

5 Build safer healthier communities: we will collaborate with voluntary sector and other partners to tackle issues like violence, safeguarding, and to maximise benefits income for local people. And support visible policing.

These aims come partly from our public events: two on rivers, one on housing, one on tackling violence against women and girls & one entitled Beyond the Bypass debating options around this issue. Herefordshire Labour public meetings invite a wide range of contributors to broaden debate and deal with the real concerns of people in our county. We put these discussions together with what people tell us at our stalls and on the doorstep alongside our members’ views and national Labour policies to set our five big issues for the May elections.
