We are now just weeks away from our next big challenge in Herefordshire for Labour: campaigning in the 2023 local council elections.

We want to make them count by standing candidates and running an inspiring campaign. Our approach is about problems and potential locally not about national personalities. We want to present the Labour alternative for the county council’s priorities that matter to residents.

Your local North Herefordshire Labour Party is a partner with the Hereford & South Herefordshire Labour Party in a Local Campaign Forum that agrees candidates and the core offer to voters from Herefordshire Labour.

A joint policy forum with our members held on 19th January agreed the 7 items listed in the image – each week to the elections we will be campaigning on these issues

We also need people standing in the wards they live in. Could you stand in your ward? Maybe you are already a Parish Councillor or involved in other community organisations, such as village halls or Young Farmers or other charities or community activities which mean local voters know and respect you?

If you might be interested, why not contact us for a chat and/or come to an all members meeting to meet the enthusiastic people already involved! We will also support you through training led by the party nationally and with campaign materials and support on the ground in the run-up to the election. Our executive committee members are mostly novices at campaigning and elections, with the majority just over a year in post, so don’t feel you will be out of place!

We want to work together to put forward our best proposals with credible candidates, wherever we can, to put Labour back on the map in the county. The number of so-called ‘independent’ councillors currently dominating the council is misleading; each of them will have political views that are not visible to the electorate. We believe in transparency in public life and in standing up for your values. How else can voters have a real choice?

So do think about getting involved, either in campaigning or possibly as a candidate. Come to all-members meetings where we discuss election plans: last Thursday of each month except August and December. You should be getting invites to these as a member – if not please let our secretaries know. Or contact our Chair, Will Hopkins.
